President of Abkhazia Badra Gunba Honors the Memory of Abkhazian Natives Who Died Defending Besieged Leningrad

As part of his visit to St. Petersburg, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Badra Gunba visited the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery.

The Head of State laid a wreath at the Mother-Motherland Monument and also placed flowers at the memorial plaque dedicated to natives of Abkhazia who defended besieged Leningrad. The plaque is located on the Alley of Memory.

In his entry in the Book of Honoured Guests of the memorial cemetery, President Gunba recalled the book The Road of Life, which tells the story of besieged Leningrad. Echoing remarks made in a recent interview, he noted that the book was his first introduction to literature, left a lasting impression on him, and inspired a lifelong love of reading.

The President emphasized that the story of Leningrad teaches resilience, courage, and devotion to duty, while the heroism displayed by the city's defenders continues to serve as an example for future generations.

President Gunba stressed that the people of Abkhazia honour the memory of their compatriots who gave their lives for the common Victory and noted that preserving the historical truth about those events remains a responsibility owed to future generations.
