The reconstruction work was carried out with the support of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, Nizhny Novgorod, Abkhazian businessmen, and the Vladislav Ardzinba Sukhum International Airport. The reconstruction of the pier, carried out by Krasnodar Krai, will begin very soon.
Badra Gunba expressed gratitude to the Russian regions for their contribution to the creation of a new symbol of cooperation.
The grand opening of the renovated embankment and memorial plaques will take place on July 3. The total length of the reconstructed section was 1920 meters, and the area of the territory was 13.7 hectares. The cost of the work, taking into account the new engineering solutions, exceeds 2.5 billion rubles. Durable granite and marble were used in the renovation. The retaining wall, historical lighting elements, and utility systems have been completely renovated.
In addition to the architectural renovation of the embankment, extensive archaeological research was carried out in the area of the Sukhum fortress during the works. As a result, burials from the Roman and Byzantine periods were discovered, as well as a stone with a Latin inscription from the 2nd-3rd centuries AD.
The embankment will become a new calling card for Sukhum, uniting the city's historical heritage, modern infrastructure, and new opportunities for tourism.
