Vice President Beslan Bigvava and Minister of Emergency Situations Lev Kvitsinia took part in the meeting.
The President noted that the interaction between the ministries of the two countries has always commanded great respect. The Head of State emphasized that the activities of the Ministry of Emergency Situations affect people during the most difficult times, and one of the best systems for supporting the population in emergency situations has been created precisely in the Russian Federation.
Badra Gunba thanked Alexandr Kurenkov for his personal visit, despite his busy schedule, and emphasized that the development of interaction between the ministries provides the most effective opportunity to be useful to people.
Speaking about cooperation, the Head of State recalled how last year an EMERCOM aircraft arrived at Sukhum airport to evacuate the sick for emergency treatment, and expressed gratitude for this.
In turn, Alexandr Kurenkov thanked them for the warm welcome, noting the high culture of hospitality in Abkhazia, and congratulated the residents of the capital on the upcoming Sukhum City Day.
He emphasized that cooperation between the departments has been ongoing since the early days of the establishment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia, and it received a special impetus in 2010 after the conclusion of an intergovernmental agreement in the field of emergency prevention.
Alexandr Kurenkov noted that the established information exchange allows for joint planning of preventive measures aimed at minimizing the scale of potential emergencies, as well as prompt response to incidents.
He called ensuring units with modern and reliable technical means an important aspect of joint work. A number of technical assistance measures for the rescue department of Abkhazia have already been implemented, and the issue of additional equipment is still being worked on.
Alexandr Kurenkov specifically emphasized that the Russian Federation is grateful for the assistance provided to Russian citizens in Abkhazia, and also highly values the support given to residents of Russian regions subjected to shelling.
He assured that the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is always ready to come to the aid of Abkhazia if necessary.
The President also recalled how, several years ago, operational interaction with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations made it possible to localize forest fires.
The Head of State noted the personal contribution of the Minister of Emergency Situations of Abkhazia, Lev Kvitsiniya, to the establishment of the department and thanked him for his many years of service.
The President separately noted the support from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, within the framework of which technical equipping of units and departments is carried out.
