During one of the most difficult periods of our history, during the Patriotic War of the people of Abkhazia, Igor Akhba headed the Plenipotentiary Mission of Abkhazia in Moscow. His work was of great importance: the representative office became the most important center for information work, helped to overcome the information blockade around Abkhazia, organized humanitarian aid, interacted with Russian public and political circles, with the media, and provided support to our compatriots.

After the international recognition of Abkhazia in 2008, the Embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Russian Federation was established on the basis of the Plenipotentiary Mission. Igor Akhba became its first Ambassador.

His professionalism, dedication to Abkhazia and many years of work in the most important field for our country will forever remain in the history of Abkhaz diplomacy and in the memory of our people.

I express my deep condolences to the family and friends of Igor Muratovich, his colleagues and everyone who knew and appreciated this worthy man.

By order of the President of Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, a State commission was established to organize the funeral of Igor Akhba, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jansukh Nanba.
