The Head of State noted that the people of Abkhazia remember with deep gratitude and highly appreciate the historic decision of the Nicaraguan leadership to recognize the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.

Badra Gunba emphasized Abkhazia’s readiness to develop comprehensive cooperation with the Republic of Nicaragua. In particular, he expressed interest in expanding collaboration in such areas as education, culture, and sports.

“In the era of modern communications and advanced technologies, distance cannot be an obstacle to active cooperation,” President Gunba said.

The President also stressed that Abkhazia and Nicaragua share a common ally and strategic partner — the Russian Federation. He noted the importance of coordinating efforts with Russia and with all states that have recognized Abkhazia’s independence.

Badra Gunba further stated that he had instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intensify cooperation with countries that have recognized the independence of the Republic of Abkhazia.

The President invited the Co-Presidents of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, as well as Laureano Ortega Murillo, to visit Abkhazia at a time convenient for them.

For his part, Laureano Ortega thanked President Gunba for the opportunity to hold the meeting and reaffirmed Nicaragua’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Abkhazia. He highlighted the active engagement with the Ambassador of Abkhazia to Nicaragua and cited as a positive example the participation of a Nicaraguan representative in a vocal festival held in Abkhazia.

Laureano Ortega also invited President Badra Gunba to visit Nicaragua and take part in celebrations marking the anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution.
