Abkhazian President Badra Gunba met with St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov, who heads the delegation that arrived in the republic on a working visit.

Welcoming the guests, the Head of State emphasized the strategic and allied nature of the relations between the Republic of Abkhazia and the Russian Federation, noting the importance of cooperation with the regions of Russia.

Cooperation with Saint Petersburg holds a special place in this regard. "We are bound by traditionally warm, friendly relations, which are consistently developing and becoming more substantive every year," said Badra Gunba.

The President warmly recalled the recent meeting on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and thanked Alexander Beglov for the warm welcome and hospitality. The Head of State expressed special words of gratitude for the invitation of Abkhazian graduates to the "Scarlet Sails" celebration, emphasizing that such initiatives further strengthen friendship between young people.

The Head of State thanked the governor for launching direct flights between Sukhum and St. Petersburg last year, which are in high demand and have already served over 10,000 passengers.

Badra Gunba invited children with disabilities from St. Petersburg for rehabilitation and recreation in Abkhazia.

The Head of State expressed confidence that the current visit will give new impetus to cooperation and noted the parties' readiness to implement joint projects in the economy, healthcare, education, transport, tourism, and other areas. The President emphasized that the agreement signed today will serve as a solid foundation for further expanding cooperation.

Alexander Beglov thanked the President for the warm welcome and noted the high level of bilateral dialogue. He emphasized that relations between Russia and Abkhazia have reached a qualitatively new stage characterized by mutually beneficial cooperation.

The governor shared his impressions from the visit, noting that Abkhazia carefully preserves the historical appearance of its cities and their unique atmosphere. He highly praised the activities of the President of Abkhazia's team, emphasizing that despite the complexity of the tasks facing the republic, the management decisions made by the country's leadership and their coordinated work have allowed for the establishment of a confident development vector in a short period of time.

Alexander Beglov noted that the partnership is built not only on the fulfillment of current plans, but also on a close exchange of experience and prompt resolution of joint issues, thanking the Abkhazian side for its openness to an active format of interaction.

Alexander Beglov particularly emphasized the historical community of the two peoples. The governor recalled Badra Gunba's words that the history of Leningrad and St. Petersburg is common to the residents of St. Petersburg and Abkhazia, who sacredly honor the memory of the heroes who selflessly defended the city during the blockade.

I sincerely thank you for such a warm attitude towards St. Petersburg and all our residents – this means a lot to us. It is with great pleasure that I convey to you the warmest wishes from all the residents of St. Petersburg. "We are deeply grateful to you for your principled stance on the issues of careful attitude towards our common historical heritage," the governor said.

The governor noted that regular meetings allow for the prompt resolution of a wide range of issues, from the implementation of joint projects to the current agenda, which the parties discussed, in particular, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Alexander Beglov expressed St. Petersburg's readiness to continue providing necessary support in the implementation of joint initiatives, emphasizing that the city is always open to developing friendly ties with Abkhazia.
