Dear Ossetian brothers!
On behalf of the people of the Republic of Abkhazia and on my own behalf, I express my words of support and sincere sympathy in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Georgia's Armed Aggression against South Ossetia.
August 8 will forever remain a tragic date in the history of South Ossetia. On this day, we mourn for all those who became victims of treacherous aggression, bow our heads before the bright memory of the defenders of South Ossetia who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of their Homeland, and with deep gratitude we remember the Russian peacekeepers who died doing their duty for the sake of peace in the land of South Ossetia.
August 2008 was the hardest test for the fraternal Ossetian people, but at the same time it showed the whole world the strength of their spirit, courage and indomitable will. We highly appreciate the crucial role of the Russian Federation, thanks to which it was possible to stop the tragedy, protect the people of South Ossetia and open a new page in the history of our states. It is with deep gratitude that we recall the historic decision of the Russian Federation to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia, adopted on August 26, 2008.
Abkhazia and South Ossetia have walked the path to freedom and independence together, supporting each other, and I am convinced that we will also work together to build a peaceful life, strengthen our states and develop relations for the benefit of our peoples.
On this memorable day, I wish the brotherly people of South Ossetia peace, prosperity, harmony and confidence in the future."
