July 23, 1992 is one of the most important dates in the modern history of the Abkhazian state. On this day, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Abkhazia, chaired by Vladislav Ardzinba, approved the National Flag and the State Emblem of the Republic of Abkhazia. This historic decision became the most important stage in the formation of our statehood, consolidating the symbols that embodied the centuries-old history, national identity and the desire of the people of Abkhazia for freedom and independence.

The author of the National Flag is a talented artist Valery Gamgia. The flag he created is based on the ancient state symbols of Abkhazia. Its main element, the open palm depicted on the historical banners of the Abkhazian kingdom, symbolizes peacefulness, openness and good neighborliness, and the seven stars represent the historical regions of our country.

Today, the National flag unites all citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia. He reminds us of the glorious history of our people, the price of freedom and independence, inspires us to creative work and new achievements for the prosperity of the Motherland. Each of us feels a special sense of pride when the National Flag of the Republic of Abkhazia, a symbol of our unity, dignity and sovereignty, flies over our country.

I am sure that the day will come when the National flag of the Republic of Abkhazia will be represented in all international organizations, and the number of states that have recognized our country will steadily grow. This is our common goal, and we will consistently strive to achieve it, remaining faithful to the ideals of freedom, independence and justice for the sake of future generations and the prosperity of our Motherland.
